생각하는 것만으로 게임을 조작할 수 있는 컨트롤러가 등장했다.

‘Project Epoc’이라 명명된 이 헤드셋 형태의 PC 인터페이스는 본체에 붙어있는 각종 센서를 통해 뇌의 활동을 측정하여 사용자의 ‘사고(思考)에 의한 컨트롤’을 실현하는 장치.

이 제품을 개발한 오스트렐리아의 Emotiv는 ‘Project Epoc’가 플레이어의 ‘표정’, ‘감정’을 실시간으로 읽어 게임에 적용하는 것이 가능하다고 밝혔다.

Emotiv는 이미 게임 개발자용으로 3종의 SDK를 개발하고 있으며 올해 열릴 예정인 게임 개발자 컨퍼런스인 GDC (Game Developers Conference) 에서 ‘Project Epoc’을 시연할 예정이라 전했다.

이 회사가 주장하는 대로 플레이어의 ‘표정’, ‘감정’, ‘의지’를 리얼타임으로 처리 할 수 있다면 생각만으로도 캐릭터를 움직일 수 있고 온라인 게임 등에서 캐릭터의 감정표현을 키보드 입력이 아닌 플레이어 자신의 실제 감정을 캐릭터에 이입하는 것이 가능해지게 된다.

이전에도 뇌파를 통해 단순하게 마우스 커서를 움직이는 등의 컨트롤러는 존재했지만 ‘Project Epoc’은 이보다 한 단계 더 발전된 모습을 보여주고 있어 앞으로의 전개가 기대된다.

이 기사가 사실이라면 사상속의 액션을 이 컨트롤러로 구현 가능하다는 말씀!?
