국립과학원회보(PNAS) 최신호에 따르면 동물실험서 독성.스트레스 저항력 강해지는 것을 확인했다고 한다.
미국 서던 캘리포니아 대학의 발터 롱고 박사는 매우 공격적인 소아암세포가 주입된 쥐들을 48시간 굶긴 뒤 암환자라면 최고투여단위의 3-4배에 해당될 강력한 항암제를 주사한 결과 전혀 통증이나 스트레스를 보이지 않고 아무 일 없다는 듯 돌아다녔다고 밝혔다.
이틀 굶은 쥐들은 체중이 20% 줄었으나 항암치료가 끝난 뒤 4일만에 종전의 체중으로 회복되었다. 60시간 굶은 쥐들은 체중이 40% 빠지고 치료 후 7일만에 원래의 체중으로 되돌아갔다.
이 쥐들은 강력 항암제 투여로 암세포가 완전히 소멸되지는 않았지만 생존기간이 2배로 연장되었다. 공격적인 암세포가 주입된 쥐들은 보통 30일이 못 돼 죽지만 이 쥐들은 최고 60일까지 생존했다.
롱고 박사는 쥐 실험에 앞서 시험관에서 효모, 인간세포, 쥐세포를 각각 굶긴 뒤 항암제를 투여하는 실험을 실시했다.
그 결과 굶은 효모는 항암제의 독성과 스트레스에 대한 저항력이 최고 1천배까지 강해졌으며 인간세포와 쥐세포는 굶지 않은 경우보다 저항력이 10배나 높아졌다.
그러나 암세포는 굶어도 항암제로부터 전혀 보호받지 못했으며 오히려 영양공급 차단으로 힘이 약화된 것으로 나타났다.
롱고 박사는 소수의 암환자를 대상으로 이 방법을 임상시험할 수 있도록 당국의 승인을 신청해 놓은 상태다.
만약 이 방법이 암환자에게도 똑 같은 효과가 나타난다면 항암치료의 고통스러운 부작용을 피할 수 있는 것은 물론 보다 공격적인 항암치료도 가능하게 될 것으로 보인다.
롱고 박사는 현재 암에 걸린 쥐들을 굶긴 뒤 여러 차례 강력 항암제를 투여하면 암세포가 완전 소멸돼 완치될 수 있는지를 확인하기 위한 실험을 진행하고 있다.

지능형 홈네트워크·빌딩 및 산업용기기 자동화·물류·환경 모니터링·휴먼 인터페이스·텔레매틱스·군사 등 다양한 유비쿼터스 환경에 응용할 수 있다. 적외선 방식의 전통적인 TV 리모컨이나 컴퓨터 키보드·마우스 등에서도 응용할 수 있어 블루투스와의 경쟁이 불가피할 전망이다. 각국의 개발업체들로 구성된 지그비연합이 표준화를 추진중이다.
최근 시장조사기관인 로아그룹의 발표에 따르면 지그비 칩만 오는 2007년께 16억달러의 세계 시장을 형성, 본격적인 성장세에 들어갈 것으로 보인다.
로아그룹 한상윤 연구원은 “실생활에서 사용하는 AA알카라인 건전지(2개)만으로도 수개월에서 1∼2년까지 사용할 수 있는 저전력이 가장 큰 특징”이라며 “블루투스 등과 기술적인 치열한 시장 경쟁을 펼치게 될 것”이라고 전망했다.

세계적인 업체들은 지그비 얼라이언스를 구성해 이를 세계 표준 규격화했다.
지그비(ZigBee)란 ?
지그비는 가정이나 사무실의 조명·보안 등을 무선으로 조정할 수 있는 무선 네트워크를 구축하는 무선 표준의 하나로 연결 기기들의 전력 소모가 적은 것이 특징이다. 지그비 기기들은 AA알칼라인 배터리 2개로 몇년을 쓸 수 있을 정도로 전력 소모가 적다.
지그비 시스템은 올 1월 공식 폐기된 ‘홈RF’ 기술의 후속 기술로 ‘홈RF 라이트’와 802.15.4 기술을 결합한 것이다. 802.11b나 무선전화기, 전자레인지 등과 같은 2.4G㎓ 주파수 대역을 사용하며 하나의 네트워크에 255대의 기기를 연결할 수 있다. 반경 30m 내에서 250Kbps의 속도로 데이터를 전송할 수 있다. 아직 표준이 공식 확정되진 않았지만 지그비의 저전력·저비용 특성에 주목한 휴대폰, 부품 업체 등이 개발에 나서고 있다.
ZigBee Alliance란 ?
LR-WPAN인 IEEE802.15.4의 상위 계층 설계를 위해 비영리 조직인 Zigbee alliance 가 결성되었다.Zigbee에서는 표준화 기반의 안정적 데이터 전송을 위해 IEEE802.15.4의 MAC과 PHY를 기반으로 그 상위에 네트워크 구조, 라우팅, 시큐리티 등을 추가한다. 이를 이용하여 Zigbee 프로파일은 서로 다른 생산자가 만든 비슷한 기기들 사이의 상호 운용성과 호환성을 제공하게 된다. Zigbee에서는 다양한 응용 분야에 활용될 수 있도록 응용 프로파일의 정의 및 개발에 역점을 두고 있다.
ZigBee 향후 전망
지그비연합은 “멀티미디어나 고품질 음성 통화 등 복잡한 기술보단 단순성에 초점을 맞추고 있다”고 밝혔다. 반면, 와이어리스 데이터 리서치 그룹은 지그비 관련 제품 수요가 올해 41만대(900만달러 상당)에서 2007년 6200만대(13억달러) 규모로 성장할 것으로 전망했다.
지그비는 블루투스, Wi-Fi, 극초단파(UWB) 등의 무선 네트워크 표준들과 경합하게 된다.
ZigBee Packet Analyzer 란 ?
유비쿼터스 네트워크 환경의 정확한 테스트를 위해, 유비쿼터스 무선 네트워킹을 위한 IEEE 802.15.4 MAC 계층 프로토콜의 연구와 ZigBee stack의 연구를 통하여 이를 구현하여 동작하도록 하며 정확한 통신 프로토콜의 흐름을 인지, 시험 할 수 있는 ZigBee 무선 통신 Data를 Capture 하여 분석하는 것을 말한다.
개발 목표물인 Data Capture Box는 일정 거리내(10m이내)에서 ZigBee 무선 통신을 위한 각종 무선 단말들의 data를 capture하여 사용자 위주의 UI(User Interface)로 PC로 출력하는 기능을 가진다.
이러한 기능의 하드웨어를 지원하기 위하여 인증된 IEEE 802.15.4 표준과 ZigBee Alliance의 ZigBee stack을 하드웨어에 포팅한다. 컴퓨터에 사용되는 소프트웨어는 Window XP용 ZigBee driver와 사용자 편리성을 고려한 User Interface를 가지는 프로그램으로 구성된다. 그림 1에서 무선 단말간의 데이터 전송과 packet analyzer board의 기능 블록도가 나와 있고 그림 2는 이의 실제 구성사항을 사진으로 나타낸 것이다.

이제 TV로 3D영화를 보는 시대가 임박한것 같다.
지금은 안경을 쓰고 봐야하지만,
좀안간 아래와 같은 칩셋이 HD까지 지원하게 되면
우리는 집에서 편안하게 3D영화를 감상 할 수 있게 될 것이다.
더불어 칩셋으로 되어 있으니
소프트웨어적으로 연산을 하지 않아도 되어
셋톱이나 TV에 무리한 프로세서를 집어 넣지 않아도 되고...
물론 게임을 3D로 보게되면 무지 괜찮을 것이다.
현재는 TV로 3D영상을 보더라도 3D안경을 쓰고 봐야하지만,가까운 미래에는 안경을 쓰지 않아도 될 세상이 올 것이다.
